Nowness: Wes + Anjelica

Wes Anderson is one of my favorite directors.  His movie, The Darjeeling Limited is in the top 10 for me (and of course there is The Royal Tennenbaums, Rushmore, and Bottle Rocket).  I was excited to read his interview with Anjelica Huston for Nowness...more so to read his questions than her answers, but it was equally rewarding.
I just read that he begins production on his next film in Spring of 2011 - looking forward to it!

Muddy

This is for pve...she asked what our dream mud/coat room would look like.  Here is mine.  I pulled it from my archives of tear-outs.

Beverly Hills Room Inspiration

I love the sconces and the green velvet sofa in this Beverly Hills home.  I also like the edgy art in such a traditional setting.

Bee Happy

My sweet aunt gave me this bee necklace for my birthday by Erica Weiner.  She has so many pieces that I'm loving and they really do make for a perfectly unique and special gift.
I also love these cicada earrings:
And this whale necklace:

Hide & Peek / Live & Enliven

I am the biggest fan of the store, Peek...Aren't You Curious?.  In fact, my very first post on this blog highlighted a t-shirt that I was coveting from there.  Visiting their store is an experience...they always have great music playing, thoughtful quotes and illustrations adorn the walls, they have huge jars filled with small toys they hand out (Stella always chooses dinosaurs...pink ones!), and they have a sitting library with a perfect selection of books.  Oh, did I even mention the clothes?  Liberty print dresses, itsy bitsy ballet slippers, and a line I've fallen in love with called Little Peanut.  Passing Notes helped in the branding process...if this is something that interests you, as it does me, you should check out the work they've done for all of their clients.
So you can imagine my delight when I received a treat in the way of a Peek gift card from Ana of Live and Enliven.  I had already had my eye on the Juliet top and can't wait to pair it with a cardigan this fall for Stella.  Ana has a blog design service as well as a super fun blog...you should definately take a Peek!  Thank you, Ana!  xoxo

Truly Smitten: Cocktail Napkins + Apps

I'd love to serve drinks using these linen cocktail napkins by Dermond Peterson.  These sisters make many fun designs from bags to pillows.  Lots of hostess gift ideas!
And to go with those cocktails, doesn't this look like the simplest, yummiest appetizer to serve?  I will surely try this next time I have guests over in 2020 (because that's when my house might be completely decorated to my liking).  It's figs + mozzarella + basil wrapped in prosciutto and it looks like a little cracked pepper.  Saw this on another blog I have been truly smitten with...Truly Smitten, who does beautiful design work so make sure to look at their design website as well.

Holiday. Celebrate.

This weekend we started celebrating my 37th birthday, which is today (I share it with one of my favs, Gwyneth).  A sweet friend of mine brought over cupcakes from Dimples and in our on-going research found them to be much better than Sprinkles.
She also brought over her 9 month old little girl and I could not resist putting lots of bows in her hair.
We had a family birthday lunch and to my surprise, my blog took
center stage as the theme.  How funny and cute is that?
My mom and aunt stayed up very late printing out images
from my blog and making a banner with them.
I love it and may never take it down.
And finally this weekend, there was a hint of cooler weather.  It was so nice to be outside and to be able to justify drinking
Pumpkin Spiced Lattes, a new favorite.  Here Stella is telling us
what she's going to be for Halloween (a ladybug).
Love pumpkins!  Both orange & white.
Now...where to go for my birthday dinner tonight with my husband?  Hmmmm...

Mackinac Island

I'm not a print or poster kind of girl but these images taken at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island are pretty.
Hope y'all are having a wonderful weekend!

A Perfectly Kept House

I had the pleasure of meeting Mary Randolph "Carter" at a book signing party for her last book, For the Love of Old.
She was so gracious and a delight in person.  Once an editor at Mademoiselle and VP of Advertising at Polo Ralph Lauren, Carter has published many books on her love of all things old (take a peek at her old finds in her office, photographed by The Selby) .  So I was excited to read on Style Court that she has a new book coming out next month; A Perfectly Kept House is a Sign of a Misspent Life, which even includes pictures of my old boss, Pamela Bell's home.
How to live creatively with collections, clutter, work, kids, pets, art, etc... and stop worrying about everything being perfectly in its place.  I might need to learn a thing or two from this!  We have new carpet in our living room that got dirty after a lot of guests so my husband surprised me and had it cleaned when I wasn't home.  You would have thought he had given me emerald earrings I was so happy!

Stationery Wardrobe

"Just like a clothing wardrobe, your stationery wardrobe should include foundation pieces appropriate for any occasion as well as a few fun and seasonal pieces. Beyond the content of your correspondence, the choices you make about your papers – size, weight, paper and ink color, typestyle – convey a lot of information about you, and you want to make sure they reflect who you are." - Dempsey & Carroll

For a long time now, I've wanted to order personalized stationery.  In a dream world, I would order a stationery wardrobe from The Printery, which operates out of this charming 1899 landmark house in Oyster Bay, Long Island.
Their designs are simple and elegant
and are used by the likes of Tory Burch.
And one for every season or holiday?
How about St. Valentine's Day...
Or summer...
Or fall...
The Printery is carried in just a handful of select stores and even at
Liberty of London, but if you're in Dallas, you can order
through Madison in Highland Park Village.

A New Holiday

As a little birthday present to myself, I had the darling Coco of Lark Creatif, design my banner.  My birthday is not until Monday but I could not wait until then...I was too excited.  It was so wonderful to wake up to the new fall day and a fresh face.  I found Coco by way of her blog, Roost.  Before creating my new banner, she asked me how I wanted the feel of it to be.  I told her that I wanted people to feel as though they stumbled upon something special, just like I felt when I found her.  She was so speedy and a delight to work with.  Thank you oh, so much, Coco - I LOVE IT!

The Seasons Change

Goodbye Summer!
Hello Fall!

Remembering Alexander McQueen

Sarah Jessica Parker on her way into Alexander McQueen's memorial service yesterday in London.
Fashion columnist, Suzy Menkes, ended her eulogy by quoting Keats:

“Beauty is truth.  Truth beauty.
That is all you know on earth.  And all you need to know”.

The Jme Pantry Collection

I'm a sucker for packaging.  Jamie Oliver's line at Williams Sonoma makes me want to try what's inside.

Summer Love

Yesterday was a sad day.  Movie sad.  Somebody very near and dear to me had met a boy at the beginning of summer.  The perfect boy.  But he had made plans before he met her...he wanted to fulfill a life-long dream of his to serve for his country in the Army.  These two fell hard for each other and spent every spare moment they had, savoring each day.  So it was a little crushing when he was summoned by his sergeant a day earlier than planned.  He didn't want to take any mementos with him but she managed to slip into his wallet a laminated picture of the two of them with a message on the back, "Carry this with you and my love will follow".
Summer love...there's nothing like it.

Lonny Library

Lonny has launched a new site where they've catalogued their rooms, which makes a perfect library of inspiration.  I love this room from their magazine, which reminds me of my friend, Kelly, of Rose and Hudson. She's a D. Porthault girl.

Strawberries

Good morning!  Oh, gosh, actually it's almost noon.  I'm having a lazy day with my little Stella Bella.  A very long breakfast, lots of sweet cartoons like Little Bear, and soon I'll head to the mall to see if Janie & Jack still has this top in her size.  It makes me think of an old handmade top.  And pretty appropriate since my picky eater has decided she likes strawberries again (after a year hiatus).
 Have a wonderful Saturday!

What They Are Wearing

You'll have to make your way through a commercial first to see New York Magazine's chat with J Crew's Jenna Lyons and Amanda Brooks of the William Morris Agency during Fashion Week.  Love their effortless style.

In other fashion news, Stella McCartney, has announced she'll be launching her own children's line.  Guess she had too much fun designing one for The Gap.  About a year ago, we took this picture below with promotional signage from Stella's collection but had to hurry because the store manager was on to us.

Summer Day

Summer may be winding down but it's still hot here and I can't stop listening to this song on repeat.  I wish there was an official video but below is all there is.  Summer Day by Coconut Records.  The girl who is singing in the background?  That's Kirsten Dunst.

Ceylon et Cie

Save the Date:  Ceylon et Cie will be part of One Kings Lane's Taste Maker Tag Sale on Saturday, October 9th.  Michelle Nussbaumer's shop is right around the corner from where I work and it's such a neat place to roam (and wish).  If you miss it, you can still find her items on 1st Dibs.

In the Celyon et Cie showroom/shop, which is open to the public:
I had to include this picture (Michelle on right) because it includes my sweet friend and decorator, Beverly Field (middle), playing around in the showroom.
I like these pillows from the Ceylon et Cie 1st Dibs shop:
