A Bunting We Will Go

We're getting ready for the weekend.
Hung up our bunting.
I love the patriotic feel to the neighborhoods this time of year.

The Love Letter

Is there a movie that you love so much you could watch it over and over and yet it's one that didn't get rave reviews, you've yet to meet anybody else who has seen it, and you wonder if you're crazy for loving it so much?  That's how I feel about the 1999 movie, The Love Letter, starring Kate Capshaw and Tom Everett Scott (side note:  I played pool with him once in NYC).
Perfectly described as a "wisp of a movie", it's set in idyllic Loblolly-by-the-Sea, a New England coastal town.  Don't try looking that up on a map because it's not a real town, sadly.  Have you seen this movie?  And what are your random movies that you have a soft spot for?  I have a long list of these!

Fun Ikea Finds

We made a pilgrimage up to Ikea and I couldn't resist taking pictures of all the kiddie things I thought were cute...

Multi-colored chairs.
Rocking Moose (how cute for a Christmas gift?!)
Adorable, soft rug for a child's room...
Seriously considering this giant picture of New York
for Stella's room...would be cute above her pink & white settee.
Fun bags that would also be cute as small storage bushels...
Stella sat on her find - some bookshelves...
Have a good week!

Gnomes

When I was younger, I somehow acquired the Gnomes book and loved it.
I wish I knew where it wound up...it was probably confiscated because I think I recall some risque business going down between some frisky gnomes.  I was surprised to read years later that it was the book that put Martha Stewart's ex-husband, Andy, on the publishing map.  I really should buy an old copy from Amazon.  I thought of this book when I saw this children's bedroom.  I would have been in imagination heaven had this been my room!

Cole Porter

Inspired by having watched Midnight In Paris...

p.s.  I found Midnight In Paris to be not what I expected but absolutely charming.  Now I can't wait for Woody Allen's next film, which will star Alec Baldwin and will be set in Italy.

First Day Of Summer

This summer I vow to...

* Eat a lot of insalata caprese using tomatoes and basil straight out of my garden,
and drink a lot of lemon water.
*  Take a break from Wife Goes On red and paint my nails in more pinks and peaches.
*  Take a spontaneous road trip.
* Find time to read a book.
Here's to summer!

Random Weekend Thoughts

I just wanted to share a few snapshots of Father's Day...
"Duke" is a nickname of Jeff's,
so the tshirt is in honor of him...
Two peas in a pod...
Stella was born two days before Jeff's birthday.
Stella was "pink" with envy...
I rarely get on this side of the camera.
Do y'all know how to photo shop?
If you live in Dallas, I recommend The Company Cafe where we had brunch.  They serve local, organic, and gluten-free super delish food and I can't wait to return to try their dinner.

Father's Day

"The father of a daughter is nothing but a high-class hostage. A father turns a stony face to his sons, berates them, shakes his antlers, paws the ground, snorts, runs them off into the underbrush, but when his daughter puts her arm over his shoulder and says, 'Daddy, I need to ask you something,' he is a pat of butter in a hot frying pan." - Garrison Keillor

Happy Father's Day to all the sandcastle creators, bug catchers, kite fliers, snowmen builders, monster chasers, storytellers, grilled cheese makers, and reluctant tea party guests.  The world always looked best from your shoulders.

Me Day

Guess what I'm doing today?  I'm hiding out and having a "me" day.  It's almost been a year since I last did that.
After I post this, I'm heading to Starbucks so I can smuggle some iced coffee into the movie theatre to see Midnight In Paris.  I'm a big fan of Woody Allen's works of quirk and this one is getting good reviews.  Can't wait!

And then, after the movie, I'm going on a covert mission...

Shoe Envy

Y'all know I have a thing for the Olsen twins so how excited am I to find a blog totally dedicated to them?  While perusing, I spied this one picture of their younger sister, Elizabeth.  THE SHOES!!!!  I'm going to dream about them.
And I've always wished I had these sandals...

Confessions Of A Bibliophile

I love Bookfessions.  Here are some of the confessions I like from their site as well as some  libraries I adore...
603. The best date I ever went on was when my boyfriend and I dressed up - me in heels, him in a bowtie - and went to the bookstore for the entire day.

577. I love going to a bookstore or library and just browsing.  It's my own personal therapy session.
{via}

579. I have a section on my bookshelf of books where I haven't read the last chapter because I don't want it to end.
{via}

576. I'm so in love with books, my thoughts are usually narrations.
{look at those tiny gold shell lights above the bookshelves}

312. A house is not a home without at least
one bookcase full of books.

294.  I had to get a new copy of Kerouac's "On The Road" after giving my old one a good life. I carry it with me wherever I travel and keep track of all the cities it's been to under the back flap.  Kerouac doesn't let me down.

280. I recite my library card number in my sleep.

268. I go out of my way to buy books that have notes written inside the cover.  I wonder what happened to those people - not only how this book reached them, but also what happened to them that this book ended up back in a store.

Dylan + Paul

Did you see the news that Dylan Lauren got married this past weekend?  Here are some snap shots from the "sweet" bridal shower that Darcy Miller threw in her honor.  More pics here.  There are quite a few ideas to borrow for any kind of celebration, such as the candy necklace below...
